26,000 candidates DID NOT filled the JEE ADVANCED 2014 Form

Image
Nearly 26,000 candidates who cleared this year’s JEE (Main), the first of the two-tier IIT entrance exam, have opted out of the final one, probably headed to other institutions that admit students based on scores in the preliminary test. The number is nearly 17 per cent of the nearly 1.54 lakh candidates who cracked JEE (Main) and were last week declared eligible to sit for JEE-Advanced, the final test for 10,000 IIT seats in B.Tech courses. “Despite success in JEE-Main, many candidates do not aspire to a seat in the IITs. They get admission in the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and state engineering institutions. They opt out of JEE-Advanced,” an IIT official said. Eligible candidates were supposed to register by today for JEE-Advanced, being conducted under the supervision of IIT Kharagpur this year. Sources said around 1.28 lakh candidates had signed up for the May 25 test. Last year,

IIT BHUBANESHWAR SCANDAL 2014: Professor accused of mental harassment to Girls

Image
IIT BHUBANESHWAR A seven-member committee has started an inquiry against an IIT-Bhubaneswar professor after two MTech students accused him of mental harassment recently.  On April 27, the two female students lodged a common complaint with the IIT director accusing the professor of harassing them for the past few months.  "The professor threatened to spoil our career and give us poor marks in examination. He wanted us to visit his chamber regularly. He even asked us to visit his house alone at night ," one of the girls said. On April 25, the professor attempted to barge into their flat, she alleged.  "Recently, we went to Hirakud in Sambalpur on a study tour where the professor misbehaved with us. He insisted us to talk to him only. When we denied, he threatened us with dire consequences ," she said.  The IIT authorities said the probe panel consists of faculty members of the institute and a woman lawyer of the Orissa high court.  "Soon after receiving

56% of First Year IIT BOMBAY Category Students feel Discriminated

Image
A survey of first-year IIT Bombay students by Insight, the student media body in the Powai campus, reveals that an alarming 56 per cent of students belonging to various categories, like SCs, STs and OBCs, feel discrimination does exist in the institute, albeit in a discreet manner. While an assessment of IIT-JEE results has shown success is skewed in favour of students with urban and high-income background, this is the first time an IIT has looked at the issue of biases and discrimination on the campus on the basis of region, language, caste, religion and category of the students. While 69 per cent of freshers denied any caste discrimination, 28 per cent said it was there in an indirect manner while three per cent said they had witnessed it first-hand. The survey was conducted on first-year students who joined IIT Bombay in July 2013. A questionnaire with 25 questions was sent online to them at their official IIT Bombay email address. The entire survey took a month. “The

Why you should take a retake: 1) There is definitely good probability of cracking BITS(or IITs or NITs) in second attempt if you are intelligent enough. You don't have to super intelligent now that even seats have been increased. 2) Life at BITS(or any other IITs or some NITs) is way awesome. The kind of culture you are exposed to, the international curriculum u face, the kind of awesome people u interact with, the freedom u r given here, the opportunites that knock on your door which may not come in normal Engg colleges, the BITSIAN tag u get, all are wayy awesome. 3) Just after you graduation, for the first job, the BITS tage will reallyyy help u to get through the resume screening stage.(Mind you only till here. After that it's your skills that matters). Also you get very good companies during your campus placements which are very diff to crack through off-campus. P.S: After 1-2 yrs of workex tag doesn't matter much. Why you shouldn't you take a retake: 1) Risk of l

Kota Story: Fight with Sir in an Inorganic Chemistry Class

Image
This might not be the most memorable or interesting but was made so by recalling and narrating it many times. I was sitting in the front row of classroom attending my 12th class  Inorganic Chemistry lecture . Though it was the topmost batch being taught by the best faculty around, I was never a studious creature and didnt really like that professor either. That resulted in creation of self entertainment by mocking the teacher or simply creating nuisance. Just one such day : Sir : "Hey XYZ, how were your marks in the recent exams" XYZ : "Not so good. Could have been avoided if not for those silly mistakes I did" Me (in a soft voice) : "Ye silly mistake kya hoti hai?" [I was referring to a dialogue by Bansal Sir in just one previous class. A1 batch people might understand] There was a lot of muttering and chattering going on in the classroom, so when I said it, I thought it would drown. But when I looked at the professor and his gaze was straight u

Eduwave: A Wave of Change or A Wave of THUGS ??

In This Era when Coaching Institutes of Kota are doing there very best to maintain their relation quite warm with parents and students, there is another Coaching Eduwave Pvt. Ltd. which is doing its best to just reap out money from students and parents to keep up in race financial Battle of Coaching Institutes in Kota . Formed from the Teachers of class 11 teaching in Bansal Classes , Eduwave collected fees of JEE MAINS + CLASS 12 BOARD from its students for the academic year 2013-14. Whatever the reason may be, Eduwave JEE MAINS COURSE was delayed late ahead of january and they did'nt prepare the students who had to sit for CLASS 12 BOARD IMPROVEMENT exams. The above tale is told by few eduwave students who now feel like being cheated. Their Board Marks are at stake and only an IIT ASPIRANT can tell how important the Board Marks are in new system. The students say they tried to refund their Board Preparation Fees but "THUMBS UP" to EDUWAVE ADMINISTRATION, the

State with Most Number of Candidates in JEE ADVANCED 2014

Andhra Pradesh stayed firmly in pole position this year sending the maximum number of candidates through IIT-JEE to qualify for the advanced exam that will lead them to the portals of the IITs. However, a major push came from Maharashtra, which jumped a spot to fourth place on the list with an almost 47% increase in successful candidates as compared to last year. Uttar Pradesh, with its largest population of class XII passo uts, kept its second position, opening up a fair lead this year over Rajasthan, home to the popular coaching hub of Kota. However, Bihar slipped to f ifth position despite 1,210 more students qualifying than last year. The disparity between the successful and the unsuccessful states in the race to the IITs remains, with the top five states (Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Bihar) contributing more than 80,000 of the 1.54 lakh students (53.3%) who have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) exam, the entrance test for the Indian Institutes o

The Main Reasons for Downfall of Bansal Classes

Image
The reason for fall of Bansal Classes, Kota are as follows: 1. Unprofessional work environment: Bansal classes is a private limited organization being run as some family business. All of their family members are teaching whether or not they are competent enough to do so. The management also is run mostly by Bansal family members who are really inefficient and can't actually contribute to competitive growth of the organization. 2. Pathetic and disrespectful behavior towards the faculty members: On several occasions, Bansal sir and his family members have misbehaved with really good and widely respected faculty members in front of the students in a running class. Here are some of the reasons they did it: Whenever a teacher becomes famous among students because of his/her amazing teaching skills and people from other batches come to attend their class (I really don't understand how this is the teacher's fault). Whenever a faculty member tried to negotiate his/her compensat

Why is Kota Famous ??

Image
1-  Electricity  -It is one of the few cities in the world, which has power generation facilities all traditional type (Coal- KTPS, Gas- NTPC, Atomic- RAPP and Hydro - 3 dams on Chambal river). It produces 8% of the total electricity of India (Source: Wikipedia). There is one more upcoming Kalisindh power plant in Jhalawar.  2-  Chambal -  is lifeline of this city with tons of waterfalls around the city. Geparnath, Menal and Karneshwar are few of them. 3-  Kota Stone  is a fine-grained variety of limestone mined here. It is used and preferred more than marble and granite because it's easy to clean and maintain. 4-  Industries  - Being a major station on Delhi-Mumbai railway line and with plenty of electricity available it used to be major industry hub in north India which later shut down due to 'political' reasons. The coaching classes are actually started by those unemployed engineers. 5-  Kachories  - Of course is something out of the world.

Percentile and Normalization of marks of Class 12 / Qualifying Examination

Image
The percentage of marks and percentile are totally different entities hence the candidates should not confuse with both the above terms. Percentage is a number out of 100. Percentile Score of a candidate in a Board or JEE (Main) will reflect how many Candidates have scored below that candidate in his/her Board or JEE (Main) Examination. A Percentile score is the value below which a certain percent of observations fall. For example, the 40th Percentile is the value or score below which 40 Percent of the observations may be found. The Percentile of a Candidate will be calculated as 100 X Number of candidates in the ‘group’ with aggregate marks less than the candidate Total number of the candidates in the ’group’ Example: Suppose in a particular Board: No of Candidates Registered =13918 and No of Candidates Appeared = 13711 a. A Candidate who has scored 50% marks in the Board and 2218 candidates have scored below him; his Percentile score will be calculated as follows  Perc
