Why going to IIT BOMBAY a Dream of Every IIT JEE ASPIRANT ?

IIT-Bombay continues to be the top choice for the best of the young brains in the country. The institute has retained its position as the most sought-after IIT in the country, with Delhi and Chennai coming a distant second and third. A number of factors have been responsible for this, ranging from importance given to streams over geography, from placement records to newer short-term courses on offer, tell students. Of the top 100 rankers in JEE-Advanced 2014, almost all have opted for IIT-B computer science as their first choice. But 58 were allotted seats at IIT-B in computer science in the first round, followed by Delhi, where 36 of the top 100 have been admitted (see box). Why Girls Perform well in CBSE but fail in JEE ADVANCED ?

The result of the prestigious  JEE advanced 2014 was announced yesterday with only five girls making it to the top 100. Udaipur’s Chitraang Murdia emerged as the topper while Aditi from IIT Roorkee zone is the topper amongst girl candidates securing seventh rank in the common merit list. Asked about the reason behind such poor performance of girls in the exam, Aditi told that girls are neither encouraged by their parents nor by the society to get into engineering. Aditi from Jalandhar scored 95.4% in her senior secondary examination. “My future plan is to join computer science in IIT Delhi,” she said, adding: “I may like to join the civil services.” This year, the results of the 2014 Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced) was heavily in favour of students from the CBSE, as nearly 55% of those who qualified the test are from this board.
